I think they're ponderous and boring. It feels as if the Wachowskis want to really impress us with all of the books they've read. There are other reasons I don't care for the last two, but that's my main beef.
i think the perhaps primary difference, considering the matrix trilogy to be a dramaturgical construct, between the first film, and the next two is that, again from a cinematically historical standpoint, the first film had a sense of innovation in it rooted in something we believe to be a common reality, and the idea that it may perhaps not be a reality of any sorts. conversely, the next two movies sucked.
the series blew its earth-shattering mindfuck load in the 1st movie. the next two were burdened with the resultant philosophical hang-ups, and ultimately spent way too much time dancing around questions that they were incapable of answering in the first place.
